Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Repetitive Stress, cumulative trauma, wrist pain Carpal Tunnel.
Symptoms
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the common name given when the nerves and tendons running through the carpal tunnel of the wrist are compressed by either by tissue or bone. They can become irritated and swell causing serve pain. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in the wrist through which nerves and tendons pass into the hand and fingers. The first symptoms of carpal tunnel is usually the beginning of numbness in tn the ring finger. This spreads to include all the fingers and the thumb. The progression continues with the burning of the hand and later shooting pain in the wrist. The fingers become weak as the problem advances. The pain is usually worse at night and the result can be tingling, numbness, and eventually debilitating pain that radiates up the arm and to the back of the shoulder. The tingling in the fingers usually begins several after work has actually stopped. Because of this delay in the appearance of symptoms, many carpal tunnel syndrome sufferers don't realize their work activities are causing the pain until it's too late. Stiffness usually follows the tingling phase and can leas to severe wrist and hand pain. During the night is usually when the pain is worse and the result can be tingling, numbness, and eventually debilitating pain that radiates up the arm and to the back of the shoulder. The tingling can lead, over time, to stiffness and numbness in the fingers and hand, and then to severe wrist and hand pain.

"By nature, Im a skeptic. When my brother-in-law suggested I try an elastic band for my carpal tunnel problems, I quietly laughed. After explaining to me that the band was impregnated with semiconductors, I laughed some more. In fact, I continued laughing while wearing a band immediately after a particularly painful episode of my condition. However, my laughter stopped when I realized something--the band, in fact, did work! Unfortunately, the "band" was given to me after I went through several months of conventional treatment for my condition. This included the use of a fitted removable cast in addition to two to three hour-long hand therapy sessions over a period of six weeks. I am curious as to whether or not the use of the "band" would have shortened the treatment time."

"My fingers were getting numb. I was losing power and could
not use my nippers. I thought I was going to have to give up my profession and find a new
job. After using the wrist wraps for three days I had all my power back. Its been three
month now and I feel great."
Scientists call them the COXs--a pair of closely-related cyclooxygenase enzymes that produce prostaglandins, a class of relatively short-lived hormones that mediate many cellular and physiologic processes. COX-1 is said to be responsible for cellular "housekeeping" functions. COX-2 is necessary for the inflammatory process, but can easily go astray. COX-2 has been observed at the scene--and is the prime suspect--of many a cellular "crime." But the exact role of both enzymes is uncertain. Pharmaceutical companies have developed drugs to contain COX-2 at the first sign of trouble. But scientists at the NIEHS would like to know for sure whether one or both enzymes are guilty of causing damage. And they believe the best way to determine that is by alternately removing each enzyme from experimental animals and observing the effects.

From Medical Correspondent Rhonda Rowland
(CNN) -- Repetitive-motion injuries are being reported at an alarming rate in all types of workplaces -- from newsrooms to meat packing plants. However, a new study finds that jobs such as typing on a keyboard are not always the cause of such ailments as carpal tunnel syndrome. "What we know is any abnormality or any disease that will cause the lining of those tendons to become inflamed can cause carpal tunnel syndrome," hand surgeon Dr. Jim Roderique said. Ailments such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease and gout often are culprits. Others are pregnancy, birth control pills and sudden weight gain, which causes fluid retention. Still, findings published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine show the real cause of hand pain is often misdiagnosed. In the study, two-thirds of patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome actually had underlying medical conditions or were obese.
University Research Briefs

The Goode Wraps products have proven effective in relieving pain, swelling and
stiffness in muscles and joints. There have been no complaints about allergic reactions.
The FDA laboratory in Seattle, Washington tested the product to see if any of the
semiconductors were absorbed into the skin. This
test concluded the elements were not absorbed into the skin.
The Health Sciences Department or Medical Schools at five major universities have been
involved in
research. A double
blind pain study was conducted at a western university and the results stated, "Seven
days- 33% of control group subjects had again slight improvement. 91% of the treatment
group subjects had great to total improvement. Significance
is .004. An anti-inflammatory study by
a southwest university concluded, "These data indicate that semiconductors are an
active topical anti-inflammatory agent when impregnated on cloth or on tape. Another study by the same university summarized by
stating, "There does not appear to be any consistent effect of the semiconductor
patches on blood flow or local temperature in resting subjects (does not create edema). A third study on muscle relaxation states,
"In several experiments, we have been able to record a reduction of force through the
motion cycle after the application of semiconductors over the bellies of the planar flexor
muscles. This effect occurs within very few
minutes of application of semiconductors."
Two pilot studies with athletes wearing
wraps at a rocky mountain university conclude, "Kicking results showed that maximum
ball velocity, knee joints angular velocity, thigh and shank angular velocities at contact
were larger in condition A (wearing Goode Wraps) than in condition B (wearing placebo
wraps). Vertical jump results showed average
jump height, vertical take-off velocity and vertical push-off impulse to be greater in the
semiconductor jumps."
An Osteoarthritis study at a nursing school concluded, T-test
analyses of data demonstrated a moderate
decrease in pain after
two hours for both the HexTapes and placebo groups and a significant decrease in pain in
only the HexTape group after two days of treatment, supporting the hypothesis of a
significant decrease in reported pain of subjects receiving treatment of topically applied
Goode Wraps tapes as compared to subjects receiving placebo therapy.
The basic science for the mechanism has not been established. A number of hypotheses have been advanced. The Goode Wraps may conduct excess body
electricity, may conduct the bodys electromagnetic waves, may conduct free radicals,
may enhance free radical scavengers or may enhance the development of the extra cellular
matrix.
Goode Wraps are not intended for sole treatment of injury or disease. Consult a physician for treatment of any pain or inflammation that is severe or that lasts for more than a few days.
These products have not been pre-cleared by FDA although applications have been filed and will be reviewed shortly based on promising scientific research. Only FDA can conclude that a medical device is safe and effective for an intended use.
The key to Goode Wraps is the rare-earth semi-conductor used in the patented wrist pain massage cones
