“I purchased a Goode Wrap for myself a week after surgery for a lateral meniscus tear.  The pain after surgery was expected but the Goode Wrap was worth every penny.  I am wearing it and wear it to be every night.  I am purchasing another a second one so there is always one dry for me.  I intend to use it on my other knee, which has arthritis, as soon as the meniscus heals.  The wrap has been a Godsend”.   Arleen C.

: Miracle wraps!

Dear Goode Wraps,

I have never written any kind of endorsement of a product before, but I can't thank you enough for the miracle Bsktball2.gif (2375 bytes)of your Goode Wraps.

My husband had knee replacement surgery a year ago after suffering excruciating pain for over a year and a half.   Another doctor had performed arthroscopic surgery for a torn cartilage, but it didn't help.  During the surgery the blood vessel that supply blood to the bones in the knee joint resulting in necrosis (bone death).  The only option was removal of the dead bone and knee replacement.

Even though he is back at work and was doing the best he could, his knee was always terribly swollen with fluid.  Last month he went for his one year follow-up appointment.  The doctor confirmed that his knee was full of fluid, but told him he doesn't like to drain it because of the almost certain infection that would come.  Basically, there was nothing to be done = just live with it.

I ordered one of your wraps within a couple of days of this appointment.  From 30 minutes after he put it on, my husband has been pain free and the fluid is going down!  He wears it day and night.   That's the reason I am ordering a 2nd wrap so he will have one to wear while the other is being laundered.

We have told everyone we know about this miracle wrap!

Thank you so much
Carolee

"As you’ve probably already seen I’m recovering from bilateral Skiing2.gif (2026 bytes)reconstruction of both knees. Needless to say my knees have been a bit annoyed by having their middle third cut out. I’ve found a great product that has eliminated my pain. They do have University Research reports on-line, but being an engineer I figured I’d do my own research. I used the wrap on my right knee and left my left knee as the control group. I’ve been doing this for a little over a week and my right knee feels dramatically better (no more stiffness in the morning, or pain when I sit for long periods). The result of my extensive:) research: I’m going to get another wrap for my other knee.

I first used the patches seven days after undergoing surgery for a Football2.gif (2304 bytes)serious nerve condition in my right elbow.  By this time there was considerable swelling in the joint area and lower arm.  Twenty-four hours after applying the arm patches, I noticed a significant reduction in both swelling and pain in my elbow and the surrounding area.  I am convinced that the arm patches that I applied had some direct involvement in reducing the pain swelling in my arm.  Actually, I believe that if I had these patches immediately after undergoing surgery, the effects would have been even more dramatic.”

“Well, I have been using my wrap for several days now and I definitely feel better.  Less stiffness and pain after sitting for long periods.  I wear it to sleep and during the day if possible.  I expect to wear it to sleep until my ACL knee feels just like my other knee.  I would definitely endorse this product.

Hi

I just placed my order GW xxxxx. Actually this is the second time I order a goode knee wrap.  I had a meniscus op last sept, and I had read about the wraps before but was very skeptical.  Well I did ordered it afterwards, and thats the best product Ive ever used. I couldnt believe how it eased the pain and the swellness.   Im heavy into full contact sport - Capoeira - and need my knees a lot for floor work. Well no need to say that Ive been over doing a little, now my knee is swollen again, and I cant find my goode wrap!  God, Ive looked everywhere, that’s why I order again.  I placed an express order so I hope to get my wrap very fast this week.

“Thanks for a great product.  I ordered the knee wrap last time (1997) as I had hurt my knee (osgood schlatter disease) while using a machine at the gym.  My knee was so sore it was difficult to walk much less up steps.  After using the knee wrap, it did not take long before all of the pain was gone.   I was amazed.  The pain has not returned.  I have since ordered (1998) these for my Mom for her wrist and for a friend for her ankle.   They were both pleased.  Now once again we have returned (2002) and my son is using the wrap for shin splints.  Thanks again!” Meniscus,, iiotibial band syndrome,co

What are Goode Wraps?

They are elasticized compression shorts or sports wraps.  Each of these is impregnated with a unique blend of natural rare-earth semiconductors.  Goode Wraps are available for the hip, groin, foot, ankle, knee, elbows, and wrist.  In fact, the semiconductors can be added to almost any cloth like material.

What are they used for?

Primarily to control pain, swelling and stiffness.  They are ideal for tired aching muscles or joints from sporting activity, exercise and repetitive stress injuries.  The Goode Wraps help the muscles regain strength and prevent or lessen the sharp pain in joints from tendon stress.

In reality, pain in hip, and knee joints can be nothing more serious than referred pain from myofascial trigger points (tiny contraction knots) in the muscles of the hip and thigh.  Even when a hip or knee joint has suffered a verifiable physical injury, trigger points in associated muscles always contribute a major part of the pain.  Referred pain can be every bit as intense and debilitating as pain from a damaged joint.

Some researchers suspect that trigger points may actually be the root cause of true osteoarthritis and other kinds of joint deterioration.  This is because muscles afflicted with trigger points become shortened and stiff.  When this happens, even normal movement puts undue strain on muscle attachments at the joints, which can eventually result in damage to connective tissue and distortion of the joints themselves.

Is there anything similar on the market?

Not in the United States.  Only in Japan and Belgium.  Goode Wraps are the only products of this type to be made available here and the process is patented in Japan and the United States.

No Magnets, Chemicals or Drugs

Excerpts from Pain Study being prepared for publication by a large Western University

METHODOLOGY

A group of 32 injury victims were selected from two locations.  One a pain clinic where the injuries ranged from sports trauma to falls, and two “old injuries acting up.”   The other location was an athletic training center at a large Western University during basketball, volleyball, and track seasons.  The injuries involved were strains, sprains, and trauma from falls, etc.  There were no broken bones or deep cuts.

The subjects were randomly assigned to two groups, red or blue.   All subjects were required to sign a consent form in order to join the study, however, neither the subject nor the trainer/nurse/physician knew whether red or blue was experimental or control. Each subject was asked—and agreed—not to ingest any type of analgesic or other pain medication nor obtain any other methods of treatment for their injury while participating in this study.

Results - the perceived levels of pain were calculated by subtracting the perceived level at each reporting time from the original perception:

·       Thirty minutes - all control group subjects felt worse or no change. 31% of the treatment groups felt somewhat better. Significance of .024.

·       Two hours - control group subjects continued to feel worse or the same. 56% of treatment group felt significant improvement. Significance is .003.

·       24 hours - 25% of control had some improvement. 63% of treatment group had significant improvement.

·       Three days - 30% of control group had slight improvement. 88% of treatment group had moderate to great improvement.

·       Seven days - 33% of control group subjects had again slight improvement. 91% of treatment group subjects had great to total improvement. Significance is .004.

Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome

MUSCLE FATIGUE

delayed onset muscle syndrome or fatigue in quadriceps can be caused by Chrondomalacia or Runners knee pain or knee hurts along with  knee tendonitis and  runners knee

The benefits of regular exercise are well known but doing it takes some effort.. Everyone knows that a workout will cause pain or discomfort that goes along with fitness activities. But starting or continuing an exercise program may be easier if you understand what can be done to minimize muscle soreness and fatigue.  A pilot study prepared by the University of Kansas Medical School creates and interesting study.

Pilot Study for Delayed Onset Syndrome in Quadriceps

Effects of Goode Wraps on Peak Muscle Torque and Integrated EMG Activity
University of Kansas Medical School

Enweneka et al. (1997) conducted a pilot study with five subjects to determine the effects of Goode Wraps Cones on the performance of normal and sore quadriceps muscle groups.  One portion of the study measured the pain experience in this muscle group related to muscle soreness resulting from overuse.  The researchers applied cones and identical placebo with adhesive patches to these muscles.   Induction of muscle soreness in the dominant leg occurred by stepping up on an aerobic step that was 110% of the lower leg length while carrying an additional load of 10-15% of body weight.  The procedure was repeated for up to 10 minutes or until the subjects were unable/unwilling to continue exercising.  After 24-48 hours, the subjects rated intensity of soreness on a scale from 0-10.  The authors' preliminary reports supported the effectiveness of Goode Wraps Cones in reduction of muscle pain compared to the placebo group.

Sorting Out Soreness = Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome   (DOMS) Fatigue

Aside from the pain of muscle injuries such as strains, there are two common kinds of exercise-related muscle soreness.  One is acute soreness, which occurs during or immediately after exercise; the other kind is delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which develops 12 hours or longer after exercise.

Acute soreness.  Muscle soreness during and immediately after exercise usually reflects simple fatigue, caused by a buildup of chemical waste products of exercise. If so, the discomfort will often subside after a minute or two of rest. Once the soreness goes away, you can usually continue exercising without any residual effects.  If discomfort persists despite a rest period, you should stop your activity and rest the part of the body that is involved. You should not proceed with your workout until you're able to exercise that area without pain.

Delayed soreness. Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome after a workout is common, particularly if you aren't used to the activity. If, for example, you haven't exercised for 6 months, and then you suddenly walk 3 miles and do some push-ups and sit-ups, you may feel soreness over much of your body the next morning. You may also notice muscle stiffness and weakness. Such symptoms are a normal response to unusual exertion and are part of an adaptation process that leads to greater strength once the muscles recover. The soreness is generally at its worst within the first 2 days following the activity and subsides over the next few days.

Causes of Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome Fatigue

DOMS is thought to be a result of microscopic tearing of the muscle fibers. The amount of tearing depends on how hard and how long you exercise and what type of exercise you do. For example, activities in which muscles forcefully contract while they are lengthening tend to cause the most soreness. These "eccentric" contractions, as they are called, provide a braking action; they occur in activities such as descending stairs, running downhill, lowering weights, and performing the downward movements of squats and push-ups.

In addition to microscopic tearing, swelling may take place in and around a muscle, which can also contribute to delayed soreness. Such swelling increases pressure on the neighboring structures, resulting in greater muscle pain and stiffness. Eccentric muscle contractions tend to cause both microtearing and swelling.

Preventing Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome Fatigue

Certain tactics may enable you to avoid delayed soreness altogether, or at least keep it to a minimum. One step is to warm up thoroughly before activity and cool down completely afterward. This can be done by stretching the muscles that you will be using and by doing a few minutes of light, low-impact aerobic activity, such as walking or biking.

It's also important to give your muscles time to adapt to your activity. For instance, if you have been inactive and your goal is to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes, start by simply walking a mile or so, and then add another quarter- to half-mile at each workout until you can comfortably walk 3 miles. Then you can begin to increase your walking pace to achieve your goal.

These principles to avoid DOMS can apply to any activity, especially weight training. Begin with a weight that you can comfortably use to perform 3 sets of 10 repetitions for an exercise. Continue to use this weight until you can perform 3 sets of 15 repetitions. At the next workout, increase the weight to one that will allow 3 sets of 10 repetitions, and increase the repetitions to 15 as with the first weight. This process should continue until you reach the level of resistance that is appropriate for your training goals.

Even if you're exercising regularly, any unaccustomed activity may cause delayed soreness, so, if possible, avoid making sudden major changes in the type of exercise you do or how long you do it.

Dealing With Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome Soreness

Let's say you overdo it one weekend by hiking and playing flag football or pick-up basketball. What are your options? Most experts would say the soreness will go away in 3 to 7 days with no special treatment. But there are some things you can do that may reduce the soreness and speed your recovery to some extent.

Initially, you should avoid any vigorous activity that increases pain, though you may work the unaffected areas of your body. By exercising unaffected areas or by performing low-impact aerobic activities such as biking or walking at a moderate pace, blood flow can be increased to the affected muscles, which may help diminish soreness.

Other measures include applying ice, gently stretching, and massaging the affected muscles, which may be helpful for some people and poses little risk if done sensibly. Also, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen may reduce the soreness temporarily, though they won't actually speed healing. These medications are available over the counter, and they can be prescribed by physicians in greater strengths. And there is some evidence that vitamin C may decrease soreness.

Finally, you should allow the soreness, weakness, and stiffness to subside thoroughly before vigorously exercising the affected muscles again, and don't forget to stretch and warm up before your targeted activity. If your pain persists longer than about 7 days or increases despite these measures, consult your physician.

Remember: This information is not intended as a substitute for medical treatment. Before starting an exercise program, consult a physician.

Muscle Relaxation Study - Muscle Fatigue

pain, stress, sprain, ache, studies, study, clinical, medica

Muscle relaxation study by a large Southwest University

Summary:

Once these standards were developed, the same procedures were followed only a massage cone was applied to the belly of the muscles. The results show that massage cone quickly allows the muscle to move to full flexibility.

Notes from the Researchers

The research has proven to be more difficult than anticipated primarily because there has never been any research, at least documented, concerning how muscles relax or why muscles become more flexible.

The research was performed on mice. Basically they measured the flexibility that would occur over a 20 minute period by moving the mouse leg back and forth during this time period. Numerous tests were performed at three different frequencies to establish the control. The charts show how the muscle resistance decreases over time. In other words, warming up your muscles moves them to maximum flexibility.

Once these standards were developed, the same procedures were followed only a massage cone was applied to the belly of the muscles. The results show that our product quickly allows the muscle to move to full flexibility.

In another test, the muscles were at full flexibility and then our product was applied. In these tests nothing happened.

The next stage of the study will be 1) To record nervous activity in dorsal roots of the spinal cord during static and dynamic stretch, and 2) To determine static and dynamic muscle stiffness with or without topical application following cutting of dorsal roots.

We have no idea how, or if, this muscle relaxation relates to the pain relief or the anti-inflammatory action noted in the other studies. However, it is possible pain may be relieved by relaxing muscles.
