Restless Legs Syndrome RLS

When a person with restless legs syndrome holds their legs still and tries not move them, the legs seem to get worse causing creating sleep disorder. These feelings create an urge to move the legs about and happens during rest or sleep, especially in the lower legs.  They try to move their legs as a way of relieving or completely getting rid of these feelings. The result is sleep disorder.

Restless legs syndrome does not ssem to cause any damage to a persons health, but it often leaves the sufferer from not getting a good night's sleep.  Restless legs syndrome is not a specific desease and people who have severe restless legs syndrome may feel spastic flexing of their hips, knees and ankles when they lie down.   Sometimes they suffer from leg pains in the morning.

Since it is not a desease, the exact cause of restless legs syndrome is unknown.  However, it tends to run in families.  Restless legs syndrome seems to be most serious in people who are middle-aged and olderbut can be a problem at any age.  Although most cases of restless legs syndrome happen in healthy people, there is an increased chance of the syndrome in people who have various diseases such as diabetes.

Hi,

"By the way, I have RLS (restless legs syndrome) and use the calf wrap.  I would never have believed this relief was possible WITHOUT the heavy drugs they give out.  This product works excellent for me.  I never would have believed it.  The heel problem is for my wife, who has witnessed my relief and naturally is looking to your help".

 Thank you,
Vince G.

“The arrival of your miracle gift came at the perfect time.  I was into a project around the patio and halfway through wondering if I could finish.  So I made a cup of tea, opened up my mail, and there it was, with those magic spots.  I put it on right away and indeed have only removed it when I shower.  What ever its treating power to relieve restless legs cramps and pain is quite amazing.  I believe now that I can get back on the walking machine and regain some strength in my leg".

Restless legs syndrome
By Justine Ferrari

SLEEP is designed as a period of repose, to rest body and spirit for the next day's toil.

However, some of us are far more active in our sleep than we ever are during our waking hours.
Twitching, shuffling and jerking legs, moving every few seconds, the afflicted arise in the morning feeling like they have just completed a marathon in the bed, rather than eight hours of punching out the zzzzs.

Millions of people suffer from restless legs syndrome and its associated problem of periodic limb movements. Millions more suffer as the bed-partners whose sleep is also disrupted. Some studies suggest as many as one in 10 people suffer restless legs syndrome, of whom more than 80 per cent also have periodic limb movement disorder.

Restless legs syndrome is a neurological disorder that manifests as an unpleasant feeling in the legs, particularly when going to sleep or lying down. The feeling provokes an intense urge to move the legs, which momentarily relieves the feeling.

The National Institutes of Health in the US describe the sensation in the legs as burning, creeping or tugging, which sometimes feels like pins and needles and sometimes like insects crawling inside the legs. Because the sensation occurs when lying down, most people with restless legs have difficulty falling and staying asleep. Periodic limb movement disorder is similar.

While you sleep, your legs twitch or jerk uncontrollably and regularly, typically every 10 to 60 seconds. The cause of restless legs is unknown, although it tends to be more common as you age and runs in families. About half the sufferers have a family history of restless legs.

Certain factors seem to contribute to restless legs, including being pregnant, chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney failure and Parkinson's disease, as well as some medications. Drinking coffee, alcohol and smoking also seems to exacerbate the condition. While scientists do not understand what causes restless legs, recent research at Penn State College and Johns Hopkins University in the US has unearthed some clues.

The first-ever study examining the brains in autopsy of sufferers of the syndrome found parts of the mid-brain were iron deficient. The good news is there is no brain damage, making restless legs a sensory motor disorder rather than a physchological problem. Researchers told a meeting of the Association of Professional Sleep Societies that part of the mid-brain called the substantia nigra is deficient in iron.

It is not as simple as people with restless legs syndrome not eating enough iron, and it appears that their brains lack a specific receptor involved in transporting iron into the brain cells. The cells receive enough iron to stay alive but not enough to function properly. As a result, the nerve cells in the brain can misfire, which causes the wrong signals to the legs and creates the restless feeling.

I wanted to let you know what a wonderful product your knee wrap is.  I have a 14 year daughter who plays basketball, volleyball and softball (at the same time) and was suffering from restless legs and growing pains.  I ordered one of the knee wraps and in 3 days the pain and swelling was completely gone.  From time to time it will reoccur and she will immediately put the wrap on.  Usually in less than 12 hours she is as good as new.  Recently she suffered a deep thigh bruise and moved the knee wrap up to the thigh and in 2 days it was as good as new.  I just ordered a second knee wrap because she wants to wear one on each knee every night to prevent any further pain associated with the patella tendinitis.  It is a great product for my child and I will continue to recommend it to all of my friends.
